In 6 weeks you should be able to be in skiing condition with a daily routine that is enough without it being too much. I suggest you start with a jump rope and work up to 15 minutes a day, add flexibility and core exercises to strengthen the abdominal muscles. Leg and ankle strength is important, so walking, running and other types of exercise when you are on your feet for period of time. This can include ball room dancing, volleyball, basketball, or similar sports. Learn to balance on one foot and hop to the other, keep your hips over your feet, chin up and stand flexed in the knees and ankles.
When you go on the trip, take spare clothes, even for a one day trip so you have some dry things to change to. Your ski boots must fit tight around your foot and ankle. Buy a pair of ski socks and only wear one pair in your boots. Only your foot and socks should be in the boots, and the foot must not move in the boot.
I had a class in January of 17 students from Australia and all seemed to enjoy skiing on our slopes. Expect to be able to turn both ways and stop under control the first day. Hope this helps. If you do a search on what to wear skiing you’ll find many answers that explain the layers of clothing and why. Have fun.
running 30 minutes everyday helps tone the muscles, and you should do 10 minute stretching right before you get on the skies.
you could practice falling over infront of tree’s so you dont ski into them. be safe.
make sure you wear a helmet, most deaths are beginners and intermediates without helmets
lunges, wall sits, and before you start do some active stretching (big kicks, walking lunges, kicking your knee up to your chest). Prolonged stretches actually decrease the amount of energy available to you.
