Qualifications for becoming a ski instructor in the northwest (USA)?

David | July 16, 2010 | 9:56 pm

I want to become a ski instructor/ski instructor assistant for the upcoming winter, I’m 15 now, and I’ve been skiing since I was 6. I’ve been in race programs most of my skiing life, I have good form and I know a lot exercises and drills for teaching beginning and advanced skiers, I know how to identify problems in stance, turns and general form. I’ve had almost no experience teaching others to ski (I started out a few of my friends). Anyway, I feel like I am a good candidate for becoming a ski instructor, and I would like to apply to a local ski resort. Before I wrote them I was wondering if their was any sort of introduction to ski instructing classes available in the northwest (Washington/Idaho/Oregon). I know about PSIA but (from something I read, and correct me if I’m wrong) their Alpine Level 1 certification requires previous/current ski instructor experience prior to becoming certified.
I’m looking for some sort of beginning instructor class I could take to make myself a stronger applicant.

Thanks!
Shani, I don’t live in Canada or New Zealand. But it sounds like a neat program.

I’m the the northwest US (Washington/Idaho/Oregon)
