What kind of Mountain Bike will support an athletic 230 lb man?

David | November 23, 2010 | 8:48 pm

I am a big man, but athletic. Skiing, Jogging, Swimming, etc. I want a bike to ride with my daughter who is old enough to ride a two-wheel, but may want to use for exercise occasionally, and maybe even some desert trails. I would like to stay under 0, but all suggestions would be appreciated.

how do I conquer my fear of snowboarding/ skiing?

David | November 15, 2010 | 11:13 am

I have tried snowboarding breifly, on the bunny hill.. I was petrified, I thought I would have a heart attack going down the hill so fast. It also took forever to convince myself to go down in the first place. Now, I know it stands to reason that I shouldn’t take up a sport I am terrified of, but it might be beneficial to my job if I could at least swing it (ski retreats and so forth) and at the very least I know it’s good exercise.

If one trips and falls up the stairs, does he need to do extra exercise to make up for missing a few steps?

David | October 10, 2010 | 2:40 am

I jog everyday in addition to seasonal sports as a hobby (ski in winter, cycle in summer, etc.). However, I also take the liberty of getting exercise from random activities; for example, I typically use the stairs as opposed to the elevator.

But on the way up to my apartment today, I fell up the stairs…I tripped on one, and ended up higher than when I started…and with a bruise on my shin. What sort of exercise would be appropriate to compensate for missing two or three steps? Should I run for an extra thirty minutes or what?

What are some decent plots for a mystery novel?

David | October 6, 2010 | 12:23 pm

I began writing a short story as an exercise for one of my furthered novels (already developed), and really liked the way I set it up. Pretty soon I had twenty pages and the bare bones of a ski-vacation story, but have no clue what to do with it. I like writing more suspenseful novels, and am prone to ending every chapter on a thread. The reason I’m asking this instead of working it into another of my plots is because I’ve always wanted to try mystery, instead of my usual search and recover-style novels. Thanks!

What are some really fun inexpensive activities I can do around home?

David | September 18, 2010 | 9:48 pm

I would like to get into shape. I love roller skating and want to try ski skating and hurling but unfortunately I can’t afford the equipment, there is nowhere to rent equipment or there is nowhere to do the activity. So I’m looking for fun things that I can do close to home that don’t cost much but are good exercise. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with.

How much activity should my husky get on warm days?

David | August 29, 2010 | 10:23 pm

I have a husky mix that’s about a year old, and she has a very heavy fur coat. I’m worried about her becoming overheated during exercise, because during the winter, we would cross-country ski for 1-2 hours nearly every day. Now that it’s warmer outside, I don’t want her to overheat when we go out, but she is used to a lot of daily activity. About how much walking/running does she need on a daily basis? She always has water available, and she even gets Frosty Paws when I think she might be too hot.
