Why do my legs shake skiing?

David | September 27, 2010 | 5:09 pm

When I am skiing, I can ski for about an hour and a half before my legs start to shake when braking. Its generally when i stop or turn to the left. My right side is my stronger side. I lift weights and hit the elliptical a few times a week and hike, snowshoe on the weekends. Any tips or specific exercises I can try?

What are some good ski-racing workouts?

David | August 5, 2010 | 9:47 pm

So I’m a high school ski-racer, and after seeing the Olympics yet again I feel like that is what I want to accomplish in my life; to stand atop the podium at the olympics with a medal draped around my neck. Saying that isn’t enough however, and I know that. What I really need to do are some ski-specific workouts. I’m looking for stuff that can be done with the following equipment: free-weights, ski machine, roller-blades (I know I don’t have all the fancy machinery a gym might have but it’s too expensive, and I hate going to the gym.). For roller-blades I’ve had the idea of setting up a mock race course with cones and skating through it. But I’m at a loss for exercises I can do with my free-weights. In addition, what would be a good diet? I.E one that is prime for muscle building, with minimal fat gain? If someone could help me, I would be much obliged. Thank you very much.

Ski Racing…first year…lots of questions?

David | July 28, 2010 | 12:45 pm

This is my first year ski racing. I’ve skied before, do black diamonds, and feel confident on the slopes. I know I need to become better at skiing but hoping i won’t be a joke out there. Anyway, i have a zillion questions so im gonna limit it.
What type of level mountain do high school ski teams race on?
Do you think I am ready for this?
Is Rossignal a good brand?
Do you have any tips for me before and on the slopes?
What are some good exercises that i can do? (ie. squat jumps)
Thanks!
