I broke my leg on the 13th of december and it was a simple break. I just got a walking boot(or cast, whatever you want to call it) and I want some different exercises I can do that does not involve to much weight on it. Thanks and Please, Please answer, I need my leg to get back in shape for skiing and snowboarding.
Oh, and I just learned about some "secret" exercises that all skiers should be doing for powerful legs and reducing injuries.

My stepson is out of shape and a bit overweight. He is having a hard time with skiing and I think it’s partly because he’s out of shape. Are there any exercises that he can do to help him gain some more strength? He’s a great kid and I know that he will do them. He just needs some guidance.
Thank you for the advice. It’s kind of hard to ride a bike now but he has been in the summer. He’s been playing soccer and baseball as well. We can take him swimming the weekends we have him. There is an indoor pool at the club we belong to. I’d love to cut out the junk but that’s not a possibility because his mom gives him whatever he wants. He won’t eat otherwise so I see why she does it. But maybe we can work on it gradually as he’s not that stubborn. We can definitely do squats. I’ve been getting him off the couch when he plays the wii game. He’s figured out how to move as little as possible. I’ll keep on him. He does listen to me.
I like the indoor sports thing and will suggest it. I think he would enjoy it too because he seemed to have fun with soccer and baseball.

Ok, so I just turned 18 within the last 3 weeks, I’m around 5′11” and I’m about 230 lbs. last time I checked, but the last time I checked my weight was in November/December, so really, I could weigh less cause I went skiing a least once a week this ski season. My obsession as of December of 2006 has been skiing, and I feel as though my weight is holding me back from being a better/faster skier, even though everyone I meet says I am a great skier for skiing for under 2 years. I really just want to know what would be the best thing to do to get into shape before the next ski season. I know I really should just work out more, but I don’t like working out alone, and I don’t really like working out in gym’s, because my type of exercise is actually doing something like playing soccer or some type of sport. I just need ideas, help, and suggestions on what I should do.

Do you think people who run , cycle, ski or are just outdoors are in better shape ?

I’m now 35 years old. I started skiing when I was about 16. I have skiied in Quebec, New England, the Poconos, WV, and the mountains of NC. My last ski trip before now was 1998. My husband and I came to Utah to visit family and go skiing in Park City. I’m so bummed! I rented skis and the instant I put the boots on, I feel like my quad and calf muscles are under stress (like the wall-sit exercise where your legs start shaking after a while). I skied for about an hour and ended up having to stop every 500 ft or so and the pain in my legs was so intense! I gave up after 3 hours and can barely walk the day after (everyone else went back out today). I used to LOVE skiing, but it just wasn’t enjoyable anymore. I could get NO relief from the pain – even when I stopped. I had to lay on the mountain and get off my feet for any relief. Am I just out of shape (I do exercise, but post-baby am 20 lbs heavier)? Is it a new boot design? Are they they that much different now? Any ideas?

I would like to get into shape. I love roller skating and want to try ski skating and hurling but unfortunately I can’t afford the equipment, there is nowhere to rent equipment or there is nowhere to do the activity. So I’m looking for fun things that I can do close to home that don’t cost much but are good exercise. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with.

My hubby and I are going snow skiing in February and I need a great workout plan that will help get me in shape for three days in the Rockies. I am looking for something like a 12 week program to get me in shape and tone up those skiing muscles….

I play soccer and I want to stay in shape while I’m out. It’s in a really difficult area to do anything, I can’t swim, can’t run, can’t ski…I’m pretty much out of ideas…Does anyone have any recommendations?
